HBBE and Premed

The course requirements for HBBE and premedical schools overlap extensively: 7 of the 13 HBBE graduation requirements are filled by premedical courses, while most students supplement their applications with an additional anatomy and/or physiology course.

All HBBE concentrators take the foundational course HEB 10: Biology of Human Health, which counts as a semester of biology with lab for premed, by their third semester. This typically follows LS1a (semester of chemistry with lab) and LS1b (semester of biology with lab) in their first year.

Almost all HBBE concentrators will take an additional course in anatomy or physiology that also counts as a semester of biology with lab for premed, or as a supplemental anatomy & physiology semester:

HEB 50: Human Metabolism (Fall)

HEB 55: Human Evolutionary Anatomy (Fall)

LS2: Anatomy & Physiology (Spring)

Premedical HBBE students also fill the four Related Fields courses with other premedical requirements (chemistry, physics, organic chemistry, biochemistry, math, statistics, psychology).

Premedical HBBE students often do clinical research during their concentration and integrate their research with their HBBE coursework for a thesis project. Set a meeting with the HBBE advisor if you are interested in learning more.
