SUMMARY:The genomics journal club
DESCRIPTION:
The genomics journal club is returning for another year. We will be meeting every other Wednesday at 10 am, starting Sept 21st, in MCZ 202. For the first meeting, Allison Shultz will lead a discussion of a recent paper on evolution of resistance to transmissible cancers in Tasmanian devils:

Epstein, B., Jones, M., Hamede, R., Hendricks, S., McCallum, H., Murchison, E. P., et al. (2016). Rapid evolutionary response to a transmissible cancer in Tasmanian devils. Nature Communications, 7, 1–7.
http://www.nature.com/ncomms/2016/160830/ncomms12684/full/ncomms12684.html

This paper has a little of everything: longitudinal population genetics, rapid evolution, convergence, charismatic animals, important conservation implications, and even room for debate about the methods. It should be a great discussion, so please join us!

This will be the only message sent to this list about this journal club. If you'd like to get regular announcements, even if you cannot attend the first meeting, please sign up for the FAS-genomics list here: https://lists.fas.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/fas-genomics-list.
